The percentage of coal fired power usage in Japan, a new record
Japan's thirst for coal has hit record levels. Exporters such as Australia and Russia are benefiting from the glut, with the former's currency performing well on the back of Japan's demand.
Japanese total coal imports surged in May. Coal fired power usage in the country has risen from around 58% over the past few years to a record 92%. Key coal producers such as Australia and Russia have benefited from the demand.
