The Bank of Japan (BOJ) shocked the globe on January 29 by adopting a negative interest rate environment, setting it at -0.1%. The decision comes after the European Central Bank (ECB) became the first major central bank to venture below zero in June 2014. Japan’s new negative interest rate take effects today, February 16. Corporate treasurers need to decide if their cash policies need to be revaluated as a result, bearing in mind its effect may not be seen immediately.
