“Do you have WeChat in your country?” I was asked by a complete stranger on a recent trip to Chongqing. If there were any doubt that China’s tech giants – Alibaba, Tencent, Baidu and Huawei – were more than simply an arm of commerce, then the question dispelled it immediately.
