
Asian countries step up surveillance for Mpox cases
The first case of a new more deadly and transmissible strain of the Mpox virus, formerly known as Monkeypox, has reached Thailand.

The governments of many Asian countries, including Singapore, China, India, Indonesia, South Korea and Thailand, are closely monitoring for Mpox cases as the virus continues to spread in Africa, after the World Health Organisation declared an outbreak of a strain of the virus a public health emergency of international concern (PHEIC) -- its highest level of alert.
