Airwallex appoints CFO as global payment firm raises $320m in AI push
Global financial platform Airwallex has appointed Pranav Sood as its new chief financial officer (CFO).

Based in London, Sood’s assignment to the executive role earlier this month, comes as the company transitions towards a new phase of global growth.

The appointment is a return for Sood, who previously served as Airwallex’s executive general manager of EMEA, before leaving in November 2024. His experience involved building the company’s commercial engine, managing its global marketing function and overseeing its EMEA operations. He has rejoined Airwallex from his role as operating partner at Bain Capital’s growth equity fund, where he focused on growing technology businesses across the UK and Europe.

Sood steps into the CFO role succeeding Kai Wu, who has become the firm’s chief revenue officer. Wu has been working for Airwallex for over eight years.

“As Airwallex enters its next phase of growth, we need a CFO who is as much a commercial strategist as a financial steward,” stated Jack Zhang, Airwallex co-founder and chief executive officer (CEO), emphasising Sood’s ability to balance finance with a builder’s mindset.

Sood arrives at a time of momentum for the company, which also recently landed $320 million in a Series H funding, led by returning investor Addition. This financial injection drove Airwallex’s value to $11 billion, highlighting its rapid growth as the business accelerates new artificial intelligence (AI) initiatives.

“Airwallex is a once-in-a-generation company that is fundamentally rewriting the rails of global banking,” said Sood. He has taken on responsibility for managing the firm’s financial frameworks and the recent $1.1 billion investment commitment to the EMEA region and said that his aim is to “ensure our finance function acts as a catalyst for innovation and scale.”

Furthermore, following Airwallex’s recent acquisition of financial automation platform Leapfin, Sood’s mandate will also involve integrating these automated accounting tools to increase financial and workflow efficiency.
